VMIAC is very pleased to announce Craig Wallace as the new CEO of VMIAC. He will be starting work with us later in July.
Craig has been a committed and determined advocate for consumer rights for years and has actually worked for and with VMIAC in the past as an advocate and project worker. To join us at VMIAC, he leaves his role as Senior Adviser Lived Experience (Consumer) with Mental Health Reform Victoria where has worked on the early phases of implementation of the Royal Commission recommendations. He brings with him a depth of understanding of the change agenda, both the opportunities and the challenges to ‘getting it right’.
Craig’s experience also includes Consumer Workforce Development Coordinator, Centre for Mental Health Learning; Advocate, Independent Mental Health Advocacy (IMHA); NDIS Manager, VMIAC and Senior Community Development Worker, VMIAC.
Importantly, he brings to the role of CEO his personal experience of the mental health system in Victoria and the consumer perspective which informs his passionate approach to advocacy. His commitment to the consumer voice and rights can be seen in his choice of academic study – community psychology which has a focus on the systems and settings in which people live their lives – and in the breadth of the roles he has held in the mental health sector. This combination of experience and training informs Craig’s leadership style and strategic approach.
Craig is committed to strengthening and working collaboratively with the VMIAC leadership group and staff, as well as to building the partnerships that will ensure that lived experience is at the centre of reform.
We are confident that, in this important and exciting time, VMIAC will grow and thrive with Craig’s leadership and continue to ensure consumer views are heard and amplified.
Congratulations Craig on your appointment to VMIAC as the new CEO. I look forward to working with you via Forensicare in the near future. Please email me to set up contacts once you are settled.
Regards Julie Dempsey OAM, Senior Consumer Consultant, Forensicare.
Congrats Craig!
