Sharing Minds CALD Community Forum

August 14 @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm

Free
forum

Tandem and VMIAC are hosting a Forum next month, that showcases the work of 13 Projects funded under the State Governments Improving the Mental Health Literacy and Resilience of Refugee and Immigrant Communities Small Grants Program.

This will be an opportunity for service providers, not for profit organisations and grassroots community groups working with new and emerging communities from across the state to present and celebrate their project work and outcomes.

The projects include:

  • Young refugee carers building their understandings of mental health and wellbeing to help reduce stigma and shame and build knowledge in the wider community — Diversitat
  • Pastors collaborating with the Haka Chin and Zomi communities to better understand and support members of their communities who are experiencing mental illness — Migrant Information Centre, Eastern Melbourne
  • A housing service supporting homeless asylum seekers through increasing mental health literacy across resident, staff and volunteer groups – Baptcare

The forum which is free and open to the general public will provide an opportunity for workers in mental health and culturally and linguistically diverse communities to learn about important new work currently taking place.

The Forum will be held at the Darebin Arts Centre, corner of Bell Street and St Georges Road, Preston on 14 August from 10am–3pm, and will feature interactive discussions, performances and a wide variety of speakers.
