2026 VMIAC Annual General Meeting

Our Annual General Meeting is an event where we present our Annual Report to VMIAC members and others interested in our work. The Annual Report contains information about our activities and financial statements for the previous financial year.

The AGM is also where VMIAC members with voting rights elect the people on our governing body. Our governing body is called the Committee of Management (CoM).

At this year’s AGM, we’ll propose some changes to our Rules. If passed, the changes will allow members to vote online prior to AGMs in future.

The AGM will cover a range of other items, which are determined by our Rules and state and federal laws.

Discussions and who passes motions during the AGM will be noted by someone taking minutes. The names of members in attendance will be recorded in the minutes, as will any apologies by members who cannot attend.

At this year’s AGM, the following Committee of Management positions will be elected:

  • Chair
  • Secretary
  • Two Ordinary Members

VMIAC is inviting all Lived Experience Members (formerly Individual Members) to nominate themselves or other members for the vacant positions on the Committee of Management. Your nominations must be received by 12pm on Monday, 9 November.

After nominations are finalised, the nominees will submit a statement about themselves. These statements will inform people about who the nominees are and help members with voting rights decide who to vote for. Nominee statements will be available on this site by Wednesday, 11 November.

If you are a VMIAC Lived Experience Member (formerly Individual Member), you can vote at the AGM. Please note, Associate Members cannot vote. If you are unsure of your membership status, please contact membership@vmiac.org.au

At this year’s AGM, Lived Experience Members will vote for the people they want to fill the vacant positions on the 2027 CoM. There are two ways to vote:

Option One – Attend the AGM and vote online
After registering to attend the AGM, you will receive a Zoom link for the event. On the day of the AGM, log into the Zoom meeting, you will then be provided with a link to vote in a ballot. Only Lived Experience Members who have registered to attend the AGM can attend and vote.

Option Two – Nominate a proxy to vote for you at the AGM
If you are a Lived Experience Member and wish to vote but cannot attend the AGM, you can nominate another member to vote on your behalf. If you don’t know another member to nominate as your proxy, you can nominate our Chair, Prunella Howell-Jay, or our Returning Officer, Anna Sowden. Please nominate your proxy by 12pm on Tuesday, 17 November.

At the AGM, you’ll have the opportunity to ask questions of the Chair and CEO, discuss the Annual Report and other matters relating to VMIAC, its governance, management and strategy. If there are any significant items you wish to raise or discuss, please let us know so we can include them as Other Business. Proposals for motions or Other Business can be submitted to VMIAC Secretary, Mel Sherrin, at secretary@vmiac.org.au or on (03) 9380 3900.
