On 17 June 12-1pm AEST, VMIAC members are invited to come together to learn about the Mental health and wellbeing principles guidance: From intent to impact, published by the Mental Health and Wellbeing Commission (MHWC).

The meeting will be hosted by Ali Pain, MHWC’s Senior Advisor, Lived Experience-Consumer. She will give a 30–40-minute presentation followed by a Q&A.

Ali will go through:

  • Mental health and wellbeing principles: what they are and why they’re important
  • Overview of the guidance – and the framework for giving proper consideration and making all reasonable efforts
  • What is in each principle and what they mean in simple terms
  • Specific principles such as Supported Decision Making, Dignity of Risk, Least Restrictive and Lived Experience
  • The principles webpage and guidance resource

We believe knowledge is power and this session will help you use the principles to ask questions, understand people’s rights, and feel more confident when accessing or working in mental health services.

We encourage you to read the guidance before the meeting so you can come prepared with any questions. You can view it here: Guidance on Mental Health and Wellbeing Principles | www.mhwc.vic.gov.au
