VMIAC Strategic Directions 2023-2026

Background

In May, 39 of our members participated in sessions aimed at guiding our strategic planning process. During these sessions, members provided feedback on how we can use our influence to promote the social determinants of health, advocate for human rights, and build strategic partnerships. Members shared the importance of inclusivity, amplifying quieter voices, capacity-building, and LLEW representation in government and services. It was also highlighted that VMIAC needs to play a pivotal role in the transformation of the mental health sector in our state over the coming years.

Strategic Directions

In response, the VMIAC Committee of Management has developed our new Strategic directions for 2023-26. The five directions include:

  • LEADERSHIP GROUNDED IN EXPERIENCE
VMIAC takes a strong and dynamic leadership role within and beyond the sector, standing firm in the knowledge and experience of lived and living experience.

  • A STRONG, ENGAGED AND ACTIVATED MEMBERSHIP
Our members are the core of our work and VMIAC will continue to grow, support, and engage with our diverse membership.

  • ADVOCACY AT ALL LEVELS
Our human rights-based high-impact advocacy enables VMIAC to influence the system at individual, organisational, service, sector, and community levels.

  • COLLABORATING FOR CHANGE
We recognise that the changes needed are greater than what we can achieve alone – we will collaborate and undertake joint action to achieve the transformation required at local, regional, state, national and international levels without compromising our integrity and values.

  • VMIAC IS TRUSTED AND RESPECTED AND ACTS WITH INTEGRITYOur organising skills and experience are embedded, documented, and sought by other organisations wishing to work with us.

Enacting the Strategic Directions

We want to hear from members about how we put our Strategic plan into action.

Following our AGM, we will be running a round-table discussion about how we enact the Strategic Directions within our organisation – more information to come about this soon.
