The UN Subcommittee on Prevention of Torture and other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (SPT) is visiting Australia in October. It has a mandate to visit places of detention, which includes mental health inpatient units, and to make recommendations to prevent torture and ill treatment. VMIAC recently wrote to the SPT requesting that they visit an inpatient unit in Victoria.
